Self Defence for Children and Young adults
Bullying can, and often does, ruin lives and its effects can echo through the
victim’s entire life affecting who they are, how the cope with life, how they
interact with others, how happy they are and can impede on their ability to
navigate, successfully, through life.
There always has been bullying............... Unfortunately, there always will
be. It can take the form of simple name calling and social exclusion but it can
also involve violence and terror. No matter what the level, bullying can leave
scars, scars that may or may not heal over time.
As parents, we want the best for our children and we do our best to protect them
from harm while preparing them for the knocks that life can bring. When we see
active, intelligent, happy kids start to change and become quiet, introverted
and unhappy we want to know why. Often, these negative changes are the result of
bullying. What can parents do? They can approach the parents of the bullies.
They can approach the teachers, etc. in the hope that the bullying will stop.
This, however, does not have any real impact on the damage that has already been
done to the child’s confidence. What, then, is the answer?
We provide private self defence tuition for youngsters that focuses on building
their confidence, teaching them how to defend themselves both physically and
psychologically, helping them to be less stressed and remain relaxed, allowing
them to have a safer journey through school and letting them focus on learning
rather than worrying about when the next attack is coming.
Tuition is: -
- On a one to one basis.
- Tailored to the strengths and potential of the individual.
- Builds self-confidence.
- Involves relaxation techniques.
- Enhances mental focus.
- Is fun.
Our basic instinct, when faced with a threat, is either to lash out or to run
away (fight, or fight response). There is a third option that is gained through
ability and confidence that allows the potential victim to either walk away, or
defend themselves, without feeling terrified.
This course is not teaching youngsters to fight. It is designed to give them the
confidence to walk away but, in extreme circumstances, having the ability to
defend themselves and disable the attacker. Teaching the attacker that this
particular “victim” has a sting.
For any attack to be successful the attacker must have three things: -
- The intent to carry out the attack.
- The ability to carry out the attack.
- The opportunity to carry out the attack.
Remove any of these and the attack will fail.
We start off by showing how the level of opportunity can be drastically reduced.
Then we reduce the attacker’s ability by increasing the ability of the victim.
Once that is done, any attack is met by a strong defence that lowers the
attacker’s intent for further contact.
